    Wrote the plays 'Come Back, Little Sheba' (1950), 'Picnic' (1953), 'Bus Stop' (1955), 'The Dark at the Top of the Stairs' (1957), 'Natural Affection' (1962), 'Where's Daddy?' (1966) and 'The Disposal' (1967)
    Wrote screenplays for 'Splendour in the Grass' (1961) and 'All Fall Down' (1962)
    Wrote the novels 'Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff' (1970) and 'My Son Is A Splendid Driver' (1972)

Why he might be annoying:

    He planned to be an actor until he developed severe stage fright.
    He kept secret his homosexuality, his heavy drinking and his psychiatric therapy.
    He became depressed over his later plays being less successful than his early ones.
    He committed suicide in his garage by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He decided to become a playwright after seeing Tennessee Williams' 'The Glass Menagerie' while working as a drama critic.
    A critic dubbed him 'the American Chekhov because on the surface you have mundane conversation about the smallness of people’s lives, but the characters go very deep.'
    He won a Pulitzer Prize for 'Picnic' and an Oscar for 'Splendour in the Grass.'
