The Resume

    (August 19, 1988- )
Born in New York City, New York
    Raised in Barrington, Illinois
Author of the ‘Divergent’ trilogy (includes ‘Insurgent’ and ‘Allegiant’)

Why she might be annoying:

Her parents divorced when she was five.
    She is afraid of bugs.
She never had much of a relationship with her biological father.
‘I was the good kid who came home at a reasonable hour and never did anything wrong.’ (Liar, liar, panties on fire!)
According to the British site Fantastic Fiction, she ‘wrote Divergent, her (young adult) dystopian thriller, while she was supposed to be doing homework.’
She drew the inevitable comparison to J.K. Rowling.
She interviewed about being puzzled that sex was more likely to provoke outrage than violence (‘action movie — bang, bang’).

Why she might not be annoying:

Her mother’s parents were concentration camp survivors.
As the youngest of three children, she stands six feet tall.
She admits to a chemical imbalance in her brain that causes anxiety.
Further to this point, she lists her study of exposure therapy, as a psychology student at Carleton College, as the inspiration for the central character in the Divergent series. (Her haircut didn’t hurt matters, either.)
She went on to have a solid relationship with her stepfather.
