    (October 31, 1957- )
    Born in Seattle, Washington
Appeared on Broadway in 'Mail' (1988), 'Oh Kay' (1989), 'Jelly's Last Jam' (1989), 'Kiss of the Spiderwoman' (1993), 'Ragtime' (1998), 'Kiss Me Kate' (1999), 'King Hedley II' (2001) and 'Man of La Mancha' (2002)
Portrayed Dr. 'Jackpot' Jackson in 'Trapper John, MD'
He added Stokes to his name because 'There are too many Brian Mitchells already.'
He stopped auditioning for commercials because 'They didn't know what to do with me. 'He looks black, but kind of white, maybe Hispanic.'... In a sense that is a form of racism and it is still practiced.'
Ironically, he said of 'Kiss Me Kate,' the musical that won him a Tony, 'I thought the show had no heart.'
In addition to appearing in 'Trapper John, M.D.,' he composed the scores for several episodes.
He said, 'I'm one of the few lucky actors in the world. I've never waited tables. I've never pumped gas. I've always earned a living.'
The New York Times declared that he was 'in a class by himself as a Broadway leading man.'
He served as president of the non-profit Actors Fund.
He noted, 'I was born on Halloween, a day when people put on clothes and pretend to be other people. What a perfect day for an actor to be born!'
