Politician

The Resume

    (October 3, 1946- )
    Liberal member of Canadian Parliament
Constituency is Mississauga Center; suburb west of Toronto
Member of parliamentary committee overseeing Canada's NATO relationship
Her constituency has a large Muslim population

Why she might be annoying:

She said: 'Damn Americans. I hate those bastards (February 26, 2003).'
When Toronto Globe and Mail reporter Daniel Leblanc asked her for an explanation, she threatened if he reported it she would restrict journalists' parliamentary access.
She attempted to intimidate reporters saying: 'If you guys want to keep the privilege of working in that area without being held back, I would be very careful with this one.'
The Toronto Star said: 'her insensitive remarks (have) given ammunition to those Americans who think Canadians are whiny, ungrateful neighbors who only take easy potshots.'
Her apology blamed 'the heat of the moment' and 'do not reflect my personal opinion.' Which begs the question who's opinion was she speaking?
A week later, she told CTV 'I stepped out of that area and, honest to God, I thought -- I was thinking it, it just came out of my mouth. It obviously is something that I believe in (March 3, 2003).'
She claims she 'apologized for the rudeness.'
She complained she 'got 4,000 e-mails from the United States of America. And they called me things I'd never heard of.'
The incident is very much a reminder of Francoise Ducros.
She said of fellow Liberals who openly criticize Chrétien, they should 'shut up.'
She, along with eight other Canadian MPs, toured the West Bank and Gaza on a trip paid by a Canadian Palestinian radical group.
She reported to the group: 'You got your money's worth. You have nine members of parliament who've come back completely and totally convinced that what's going on over there is a crime against humanity.'
Her group claimed that Israelis committed unspeakable atrocities in the city of Jenin. One even called it 'Palestinians' ground zero.'
Journalist Stewart Bell debunked the atrocities of Jenin, proving it never happened and is a total hoax.
She suggested that Bell compromised his position because he accepted a press award from the B'nai Brith.
This begs the question if she compromised herself by accepting an all expensed paid junket to the West Bank and Gaza?
She said of Israel: 'It is pounding a starving opponent huddled in refugee camps.'
She rationalizes Palestinian suicide killers as 'Those desperate people blow themselves up regularly.'
She said: 'The flag of anti- semitism ... is often raised when there is criticism of Israel.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She formally apologized in Parliament and sent an apology letter to U.S. ambassador to Canada, Paul Cellucci (February 27, 2003).
She is true to her constituency.
