Why he might be annoying:

While he attended college in his home state, he would not graduate, as he did high school in Louisiana.
He hosted numerous unsold / busted pilot shows (including Genesis in 2000).
The list of companies for whom he was not a speaker would be shorter than the list of those for whom he was.
With the IMDb listing as James MacKrell (from his father’s name), both forms of his given name can be found on any of his work.
He was not above infomercials, either.

Why he might not be annoying:

At the right angle, he resembles Peter Graves.
As his father was a radio personality, he came by his talent and skill honestly.
In the early 1970s, he became the corporate host for the National Easter Seals Telethon — a position he would hold for 14 years.
He was a close friend of George Carlin.
Into his 80s, he regularly played tennis.
He has been married one time (1958).
