    His story 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is required reading in many high schools.
    'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' was shown as a Twilight Zone episode that is rarely seen and not in syndication.
    He fought for the Union in the Civil War.
    His books mocked the greedy, the stupid and the hypocritical.
    He wrote many excellent horror stories.
    His mother-in-law insisted on living in his house.
    He outlived his wife and both his sons.
    At the age of 71, he wandered on foot into Mexico and was never seen again.
    'The Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' won the Cannes Film Festival (1962).
