Generally regarded to be the best gun designer in US history

Why he might be annoying:

He was a Mormon missionary (1887-1889).
He designed many of his guns for the US while living in Belgium.
While many of his guns were very successful, plenty were failures.

Why he might not be annoying:

His gun designs were used effectively by American forces (and US allies) in every war since World War I.
Some of his designs are so good that they are still being sold.
At his death, he owned 128 patents.
The Browning Automatic Rifle was credited with saving the lives of thousands of American infantrymen in Korea (it was reliable enough to withstand the harsh climate).
