Acted in 'Gone with the Wind (1939),' 'His Girl Friday (1940)' and 'Dumbo (1941)'

He dropped out of school at age 14.
He sometimes used the stage name 'Ukulele Ike.'
He referred to jazz scat singing as 'effin.'
He was married three times.
He was an alcoholic and drug addict.
He was a compulsive gambler.
He is in the Ukulele Hall of Fame.
His performance as the lead crow in 'Dumbo' is sometimes criticized for playing on a racist stereotype.

He was a huge success in vaudeville.
He was one of the first recorded scat singers.
Jiminy Cricket is one of the most beloved screen characters of all time.
His rendition of 'When You Wish Upon a Star' became the theme song of the Walt Disney Company.
Despite his early success, he was alone and on welfare at the end of his life.
When he died, his body originally went to a medical school, but when Walt Disney's Company found out, they paid for a funeral.
