The Resume

    (November 1, 1920-May 1, 2011)
Born in Lambourn, England, United Kingdom
Snooker commentator for the BBC (1946-96)
Co-creator/commentator for the snooker TV show 'Pot Black' (1969-86)
Nicknamed 'Whispering Ted' and 'the Voice of Snooker'

Why he might be annoying:

He explained the origin of his hushed style with, 'Sitting in the crowd, I was terrified they would hear what I had to say, so I started whispering. The producer loved it.'
Ironically, he died the morning that the finals of the 2011 World Snooker Championships started.
In a famous gaffe, he told viewers, 'He's going for the pink, and for those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his break when the BBC's regular commentator, Raymond Glendenning, was unavailable due to a bout of laryngitis.
He said, 'In my day I promoted the players. Today, commentators are promoting themselves.'
Players and fans at the 2011 Championships held a standing ovation in his honor before play started.
Snooker player turned commentator John Virgo said, 'He set a standard for us all.'
