Why he might be annoying:

He tried to expel all Jews from England.
He taxed his subjects heavily.
His foreign policy was ruthless.
He invaded and claimed Wales, Scotland, and parts of Ireland and France for England.
He held grudges.
He became obsessed with crushing rebellion in Scotland, and died leading his troops to battle there.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a brilliant military commander.
He gave the British government a formal structure it never had before.
He thought of himself not just as a ruler of the people, but also as their protector (well, protector of the English ones, anyway).
He was forced into an arranged marriage by his father.
Despite that fact, he and his wife fell deeply in love.
He fathered eighteen children.
His son, Edward II, was an idiot who undid much of the work he had done.
