Why he might be annoying:

During his 1982 Hall of Fame acceptance speech, he said self-promoting things like: 'I don't see anyone playing in the major leagues today who combines both the talent and the intensity that I had.'
He was arrested for waving a gun at a restaurant waiter who refused to serve him.
He got into an infamous brawl with Eddie Mathews, one of the first between a black and white star.
As a player-manager, he would trade anyone who questioned his style.
He did not get flattering reviews for his color commentary work.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was so aggressive, that managers from opposing teams would fine their pitchers if they would hit him intentionally.
When he was traded from Cincinnati, attendance dropped instantly.
He played basketball with Bill Russell in high school.
He turned the lowly Montreal Expos into a playoff contender.
He hit home runs in 32 different ball parks.
He ranked #22 on 'The Sporting News' list of Baseball's 100 Greatest Players.
