Vocalist
    (June 21, 1946- )
    Born in Atascadero, California
Recorded ‘Every Little Bit Hurts’ (1964), ‘When I’m Gone’ (1965) and ‘You’ve Made Me So Very Happy’ (1968)
She got her break by crashing a DJ convention wearing a skin-tight gold pantsuit and lip-synching a recent hit.
She retired from performing partly because she did not approve of the ‘general moral trends’ in the music industry (1968).
She returned to recording nearly two decades later even though moral trends in the music biz had not improved much (1987).
She was the first successful Motown artist not based in Detroit.
The Beatles asked her to be the opening act for their American tour (1965).
She and her sister were backing singers on Joe Cocker’s ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’ (1968).
She co-wrote ‘You’ve Made Me So Very Happy’ which became a big hit for Blood, Sweat and Tears the year after she retired.
