Chance (Mascot)

Why didn’t the team go with the more obvious pick of a Golden Knight as mascot? They studied other knight mascots and concluded that they were not kid-friendly. (Unlike a giant poisonous lizard with ‘monster’ in its name.)
The crowds at his debut appearance tended to assume he was a dragon or a dinosaur.
He looks more like a faded version of the Thing from the Fantastic Four than an actual Gila monster.
He was given the uniform number ‘1’ instead of the more Vegas-y ‘7.’ (Or even better, the jackpot-themed ‘777.’)
His debut was pushed back to the Golden Knights’ second home game because the first one was dedicated to victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting.
He was named Chance because owner Bill Foley ‘took a chance on Las Vegas.’
The first guy portraying Chance, Clint McComb, had 18 years of experience as a mascot, starting in college as the Arizona State Sun Devil.
The team responded humorously to criticism by posting a ‘Chance Reads Mean Tweets’ video. (Although, Chance actually stood silently as the tweets were read by players, executives, and kids.)
Maybe they’ll do a ‘Chance Responds to His Profile’ video and we’ll get some free publicity.
