Seized power in a coup, becoming de facto leader (1933-1940)
President of Cuba (1940-44, 52-1959)
Overthrown by Fidel Castro (1959)

Why he might be annoying:

He presided over a notoriously corrupt and repressive government.
He was a friend and business associate with mafioso Meyer Lansky.
He allowed Cuba to become a haven for gangsters, gamblers, and drug traffickers.
He did little to alleviate the poverty of the Cuban citizens, which increased the popularity of the Communists.
Ironically, he was endorsed in his first presidency by the Communists.
Many of his opponents had a habit of 'disappearing.'
He was living in Daytona Beach, Florida when he ran for the Cuban senate (1948).
When he legally ran for president he ranked last place in the polls. He then seized the presidency in a coup (1952).
He was defeated by Fidel Castro's rebels even though he had a larger army and more money.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was friendly to the United States.
Under his first presidency he was generally democratic and improved the economy.
Cuba became a popular tourist destination under his rule.
He built numerous hotels and casinos in Cuba.
