U.S. Supreme Court Justice

The Resume

    (November 12, 1908-March 4, 1999)
    Graduated Harvard Law School (1932)
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (1970-1994)
Author of the majority opinion in 'Roe v. Wade (1973)'
    Member of the Republican Party

Why he might be annoying:

He was appointed to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon.
He was the best man at Chief Justice Warren Burger's wedding.
He initially voted with Warren Burger over 90% of the time leading some to call them the 'Minnesota Twins.'
He dissented in the 'Furman v. Georgia (1972)' decision that declared the death penalty unconstitutional.
He concurred in 'Gregg v. Georgia (1976)' to reinstate the death penalty.
Despite supporting the death penalty both court cases, he had deep reservations about whether it was fairly performed.
He wrote the majority opinion in 'Roe v. Wade' that started a national shit-storm.
He made an unlikely foray into acting when he portrayed Justice Joseph Story in the movie 'Amistad' (1997).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was selected as Associate Justice after two others were rejected by the Senate.
He is unfairly compared to Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Mao ZeDong by pro-life nuts.
He received 60,000 pieces of hate mail because of his 'Roe v. Wade' majority opinion. He read all of them.
Ironically, he received numerous death threats by 'pro-life' extremists.
He overcame being Warren Burger's bitch and grew to become an independent on the bench.
His friendship with Burger suffered as he started making decisions ruling in favor of individual rights.
He reversed his support for the death penalty, saying, 'I shall no longer tinker with the machinery of death.'
He died during complications from hip replacement surgery (1999).
His will released all the documents (including notes passed between Justices) from every case he was involved in and 10% of the mail he received.
