U.S. Congressman
    (July 18, 1950- )
    Born in Grabill, Indiana
    Represented Indiana's 3rd and 4th Districts (1995-2010)
He campaigned promising to serve only two terms, and ended up serving eight.
He authored the Drug-Free Student Loan Amendment, which kept 200,000 students from receiving student loans, usually based on failing to check a box affirming that they have never been convicted of drug charges rather than a check of criminal records for an actual conviction.
Asked by Tucker Carlson why marijuana is such a focus of anti-drug campaigns, he replied, 'A marijuana user is very seldom just a casual marijuana user.'
He resigned after admitting to an affair with a female staff member (May 21, 2010).
As a bonus, the staffer he had the affair with had helped him make videos promoting abstinence-only sex education.
He was co-founder of the Congressional National Parks Caucus.
He was one of the first five Republicans in Congress to call for Larry Craig's resignation after his men's room arrest.
Asked why his wife was not by his side when he announced his resignation, he replied, 'I'm sick of politicians who drag their spouses up in front of the cameras rather than confronting the problem they caused.'
