Why he might be annoying:

    He protested the Stamp Act by leading a mob to the home of Philadelphia's tax collector and telling him his house would be pulled down 'brick by brick' if tried to levy the tax.
    He sponsored two slave trading voyages.
    He voted against declaring independence (July 1, 1776).
    Thomas Paine accused him of war profiteering.
    After the American Revolution, he lost his fortune in land speculation and was sent to debtor's prison.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He repeatedly loaned the Americans the money needed to keep an army in the field.
    In 1783, he contributed $800,000 to the US government -- an amount larger than the 13 states provided.
    As US Superintendent of Finances (1781-84), he instituted several reforms to reduce the government debt.
    He let presidents Washington and Adams live in his home while the capital was located in Philadelphia.
    He was one of only two people to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.
