Football Player

The Resume

    (May 8, 1974-August 1, 2001)
    Born in Warren, Ohio
Offensive tackle out of Ohio State University
First round draft choice (24th pick overall) for the Minnesota Vikings in the 1995 NFL draft
Played six seasons with the Vikings, earning one Pro Bowl selection (2000)
Died of a heat stroke after a Vikings training camp workout at age 27
His #77 immediately retired by the Vikings after the tragedy

Why he might be annoying:

He constantly struggled with weight issues as a pro player.
At the time of his death he was 335 lbs, the LOWEST of his pro playing career.
He puked three times during practice on his fateful day, but didn't want to be perceived as a pansy and toughed it out, ignoring his own body's warning signs.
By the time he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, his core body temperature was 108.8° F, his organs started to fail and he died the following day.
He was just coming into his own as an NFL player, making the Pro Bowl the previous season before his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made All-American at OSU in 1993 and 1994, and was the Buckeyes' MVP in 1994.
He married the woman he dated when they both attended OSU, and he became a father shortly after debuting in the NFL.
He was a popular player with the fans, had a positive attitude toward life and established community service programs in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area.
While in the hospital, nearly every Vikings teammate visited him, and Chris Carter and Randy Moss were at his bedside when he passed away.
As the first NFL player ever to die from hyperthermia, the league re-evaluated its policy on practice and protocols about athletes training during hot and humid conditions.
His widow settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the NFL in 2009, and part of the settlement included the league supporting her efforts to create a heat illness prevention program.
