    Their name sounds filthy.
Nirvana's version of 'Lake of Fire' is more famous than the Meat Puppets version, and many people don't realize it's a cover song.
They are labeled a one-hit wonder with the song 'Backwater.' The only reason that was a minor hit was because of Kurt Cobain encouraging his fans to listen to them.
They started out as a hardcore punk band.
They were major drug addicts, and two people died of overdoses at drug-filled parties at the Kirkwood's home.
They went over a decade before producing a hit song.
They created their own sound by blending punk rock with elements of blues and country music.
They've been cited as an influence by Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Dinosaur, Jr.
They were beloved by Kurt Cobain, who covered a few of their songs with them on Nirvana's 'MTV: Unplugged in New York' album.
Curt Kirkwood launched a reunion tour after receiving lots of feedback to do so via his MySpace page.
