She violated Congressional Black Caucus rules by awarding scholarships to four relatives and two grandchildren of one of her aides.
The students she awarded the scholarships to didn’t even go to school in her district.
Her actions, following those of Charles Rangel and Maxine Waters, began to tarnish the reputation of the Congressional Black Caucus.
She refused to apologize and blamed the media for her problems.
Why she might not be annoying
She was a leading voice against the war in Iraq.
She worked as a nurse in Dallas prior to being elected to Congress.
She promoted Dallas businesses and infrastructure.
She repayed all of the scholarship money she steered toward her aide's family members.
