    She was a hooker.
    Her place of birth is disputed, with locations from Mississippi to France listed.
    Being the first single white female in Virginia City, she could charge $1000 per customer.
    She was showy, adorned in furs and jewelry.
    As an 'accommodating woman,' she was refused burial in the local cemetery.
    She put the 'lady' in 'lady of the night,' renowned as a tall, refined brunette.
    In addition to employing gorgeous, couture-clad 'working girls,' Julia's Palace served the finest French cuisine.
    Beloved in the mining town of Virginia City, she turned her brothel into a hospital when several miners took sick from contaminated drinking water.
    She donated money to the Union side of the Civil War.
    Her maid discovered her strangled, beaten and robbed of her jewelry in her boudoir.
    Frenchman John Millain was apprehended a year later and hanged for her murder.
