    Appeared in the films ‘Martin Luther’ (1925), ‘Viktor und Viktoria’ (1933), ‘The Czar’s Courier’ (1936), ‘Victoria the Great’ (1937), ‘Sixty Glorious Years’ (1938), ‘Gaslight’ (1940), ‘49th Parallel’ (1941), ‘The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp’ (1943), ‘The Red Shoes’ (1948), ‘La Ronde’ (1950), ‘Oh… Rosalinda!’ (1955), ‘Lola Montes’ (1955), ‘Saint Joan’ (1957), and ‘I Accuse!’ (1958)
    Appeared on the London stage in ‘Design for Living’ (1939) and ‘Call Me Madam’ (1952)

Why he might be annoying:

    He began acting under his birth name, changing it when he moved to England.
    His long-term relationship with Norwegian photographer Ferdinand Finne broke up after he tried to persuade Finne to join him and an 18-year-old boy in menage a trois (1946).
    His favorite performance – as the villain of ‘Gaslight’ – was almost lost, as MGM bought and destroyed almost all the prints after remaking the film in 1944 with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman.

    He made films in German, French, and English.
    He left Austria for England because he was homosexual and half Jewish.
    He donated half his salary for ‘The 49th Parallel’ to the Red Cross.
