The Resume

    (March 12, 1945- )
Born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
    Stage and film director
Best known for directing the London production of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ (1973) and its film adaptation ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ (1975)
Also directed the films ‘Shirley Thompson Vs. the Aliens’ (1972), ‘Summer of Secrets’ (1976), ‘The Night the Prowler’ (1978), and ‘Shock Treatment’ (1981)

Why he might be annoying:

He spent most of his youth in circuses where his father and grandfather ran a travelling boxing exhibition for the sideshow.
He had little success in films outside of Rocky Horror. (And even that was initially a flop before it was re-released as a midnight movie.)
Four decades after its release, he admitted that he still had no explanation for Rocky Horror’s enduring appeal.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is considered one of Australia’s leading theatrical directors.
His staging of Patrick White’s plays was credited with reviving White’s career as a dramatist.
He has staged Mozart’s ‘Cosi Fan Tutti,’ Stravinsky’s ‘Rake’s Progress’ and Britten’s ‘Death in Venice’ at the Sydney Opera.
He said, ‘I like theater that transforms you – be it a musical, be it an opera, be it a play – but actually shakes you up and makes you see the world in a different way.’
