    Worked for the Edison Manufacturing Company
    Called the 'Father of the American Story Film'
    His films are generally hard to find today.
    His attempt at his own movie production studio wasn't entirely successful.
    He was also never able to create his own camera design.
    He helped illegally pirate many George Méliès shorts.
    Despite developing a revolutionary new filmmaking style, he never moved beyond it.
    He was one of the first directors to film at night.
    He was among the first American directors to try to portray a true story on screen.
    His film 'The Great Train Robbery' is still considered a landmark in movie storytelling and technique.
    His use of continuity editing paved the way for directors such as D.W. Griffith.
    His death was virtually ignored.
    He is now seen as a legend of film's infancy years.
