Doctor

The Resume

    (circa 1963- )
Former associate professor at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine
Former team physician for MSU’s gymnastics and women’s crew teams
Former team physician for USA Gymnastics (1996-2015)
Defendant in over 100 lawsuits filed by athletes claiming that he sexually abused them under the pretext of performing medical treatment
Prominent accusers include gymnasts Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas

Why he might be annoying:

He performed ‘intravaginal adjustments,’ in which he would insert his fingers into a patient’s vagina to allegedly adjust the bones of her hips.
He was also accused of fondling patients’ breasts.
He initially denied everything, using the argument, ‘Why didn’t they complain at the time?’
He changed his tune and started cutting plea deals after the feds busted him on child pornography charges (December, 2016).
The FBI reported seizing over 37,000 images and videos of child pornography from his house, including videos of him apparently molesting girls in a swimming pool.
He had tried to throw out his computer hard drives, which investigators were able to recover because the garbage truck arrived late.
He pleaded guilty to criminal sexual contact with seven underage girls, three of whom had been younger than thirteen at the time of the offense (November 22, 2017).
He pleaded guilty to another three charges of sexual misconduct with underage girls (November 27, 2017).

Why he might not be annoying:

John Geddert, head coach of the 2012 Olympic gymnastics team, said, ‘He’s an extremely professional physician…. He’s probably one of the most respected gymnastics professionals I’ve ever had to deal with.’
He treated Kerri Strug’s injured ankle before she nailed her final vault to secure a gold medal for the US team (1996).
Dominique Moceanu blamed coach Bela Karolyi for creating a ‘culture of fear and intimidation’ that kept victims from coming forward.
He was sentenced to 60 years in jail on the federal child porn possession charges (December 7, 2017), with the sentence to be served after he does his time on state sexual assault charges, so the odds are he ain’t ever getting out of jail.
