Religious Figure
    (January 8, 1894-August 14, 1941)
Died in the Auschwitz concentration camp
    Canonized in 1982
    Franciscan friar and Catholic saint
His writings appear to be anti-semitic.
He wrote that 'international Zionism' was the force behind Freemasonry and 'atheistic Communism.'
He endorsed the bogus Protocols of the Elders of Zion as legitimate.
He sheltered as many as 2,000 Jews in his monastery.
After an inmate at Auschwitz disappeared, the Nazis selected 10 men at random to be killed as a reprisal. Kolbe volunteered to take the place of one man who was married and had a family.
