TV Series
The two tribes had to live together at the very start.
Originally, the game pitted men (Manono) against women (Salani).
It marked the fourth time the show was filmed in Samoa.
This time, the first elimination was the result of an injury, not a vote.
In fact, because of Kourtney’s injury during the first reward/immunity challenge, the Manono tribe, who was in the lead at the time, was awarded the win by default.
At least Russell Swan’s injury during a Survivor: Samoa immunity challenge led to that challenge being cancelled with no winners or losers.
They had a Tarzan and a ‘Troyzan’ in the same game.
They had to put up with Colton's sassiness.
In an unprecedented move, the men's tribe voluntarily gave up immunity with no strings attached, so they could get rid of Bill.
If not for the two tribes living at the same camp, this never could have happened.
After tribes were reshuffled, the new Manono tribe was forced to move to a different beach, thus suspending the One World concept until the merge.
The first five jurors were all of the same gender (in this case, men).
Just like in the Fiji season, there were no closing arguments by the finalists at the last Tribal Council.
Leif became the first ever ‘little person’ to play the game.
They did not do Redemption Island this time, having discarding it after only two cycles.
Not since the Medallion of Power, which was seen only in Survivor: Nicaragua, has there been such a short-lived element of the game.
For the first time in three seasons, there were no returning players.
Although Salani lost the fourth immunity challenge, Jeff did not overrule Manono’s desire to give up their immunity that night.
Even though the men won the first three challenges overall, the game ended up being dominated by the women.
The men’s colossal failure this time around cannot be blamed on their voluntary surrender of tribal immunity, though.
Colton’s evacuation due to illness was certainly a game changer, plus the men gave the women the numbers advantage by turning against Jonas right after the merge.
After an absence of two cycles, they went back to showing the ‘memorial walk’ on air.
They had, in the same game, a Kim and a Kourtney (but no Khloe!)
The Final Five were all women.
