    (February 5, 1919-February 15, 1973)
    Born in Beverly Hills, California
Birth name was Charles John Holt III
Son of silent film cowboy star Jack Holt
Appeared in the films 'Stagecoach' (1939), 'Swiss Family Robinson' (1940), 'Dude Cowboy' (1941), 'The Magnificent Ambersons' (1942), 'Hitler's Children' (1943), 'My Darling Clementine' (1946), 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre' (1948), 'Rustlers' (1949), 'His Kind of Woman' (1951), 'Target' (1952), 'The Monster That Challenged the World' (1957), 'The Yesterday Machine' (1963) and 'This Stuff'll Kill Ya' (1971)
While attending Culver Military Academy, he wore a holster with toy six shooters over his bathrobe and practiced drawing his guns, saying he was going to a Western star someday.
He got his first screen test from producer Walter Wanger, who he knew from playing polo together.
While in the army, he narrated a VD film.
He had to be airlifted from Monument Valley after he broke seven ribs falling off a horse during filming of 'My Darling Clementine.'
He was fined $200 for committing perjury during divorce hearings from his second wife (1951).
All that practicing in his bathrobe at Culver apparently paid off, since he was known as the fastest draw in the movies in his heyday.
He won Culver's highest award for horsemanship.
When he was signed by RKO Pictures, he asked to use the same dressing room his father had.
He was a bombardier with the Army Air Corps during WWII, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart (having been wounded on the last day of the war).
