He spent time in the British army's Special Services, where he directed plays as well as acting in them.
He was a last-minute substitute for a sick Whoopi Goldberg as emcee for BAFTA honoring Steven Spielberg (2001).
He said it was 'quite exciting' to be part of the Star Wars franchise, especially having been 'plucked out of the blue.'
