Gaming Console

The Resume

    (1983-1995)
    Released in Japan (1983)
    Released in North America (1986)
    Released in Europe (1987)
Popular games include 'Super Mario Brothers,' 'Super Mario Brothers 3,' 'The Legend of Zelda,' 'Metroid,' 'Gradius,' 'Final Fantasy,' 'Castlevania,' 'Kirby's Adventure,' 'Mike Tyson's Punch-Out' and 'Mega Man'
Known as the 'Famicom' in Japan

Why Nintendo Entertainment System might be annoying:

    The blinking blue screen.
To play a game on the console now, one has to blow into the cartridge and inside the system multiple times.
The programmers of the games barely had a grasp of the English language.
It was first released in Japan in faulty condition and had to be recalled.
The controller design was apparently inspired by a brick, and as a result, it hurts to hold for long periods of time.
The 'Nintendo Seal of Quality' was stamped on any game made by a third-party developer that it approved of. This resulted in rampant censorship of games and bullying.
Nintendo, not the companies that made the games, decided how many copies of a game were to be made.
Nintendo would sue gaming companies that bypassed its seal-of-quality process.
Wisdom Tree (producing unlicensed Bible games) was never sued because Nintendo feared suing rabid Christians.
The 'NES Power Pad' can be easily cheated to eliminate what Nintendo intended (for fatties to lose weight).
They never allowed you to shoot the 'Duck Hunt' dog.
A robot accessory was available, it was a marketing flop and only the games Gyromite and Stack-up used it (1985).

Why Nintendo Entertainment System might not be annoying:

It revived console gaming after the gaming crash of 1983.
Though Nintendo certainly abused it, its 'Seal of Quality' prevented a lot of crazy, shitty games from being made on Nintendo.
It is home of the best selling game of all time, 'Super Mario Brothers III' (17 million). 'Super Mario Brothers' sold 40 million copies, though it came with the console and doesn't technically count.
    It was a family system.
It is crucial to understanding the gaming phenomenon.
