The Resume

    (February 7, 1934-July 20, 2015)
    Born in Rockford, Illinois
    Middle name was William
    Disney animation historian
    Media editor for Newsweek
Wrote for the Chicago Daily News and New York Times Magazine
Taught at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts
Books include 'Special Effects in Movies: How They Do It,' 'The American Circus: An Illustrated History,' 'Fantasia 2000: VIsions of Hope,' and 'Disney's Aladdin: The Making of the Animated Film'

Why he might be annoying:

    He looked like Gene Shalit.
He is better known for having inspired the design for Disney characters, most notably Medusa’s simp henchman, Mr. Snoops in ‘The Rescuers.’
The character was specifically created for him, with the name an inside joke about his constantly hanging around - or ‘snooping around’ - the Disney animation building in Burbank wanting to see the process up close.
He once asked animator Milt Kahl to speak to his students at the New York School of Visual Arts. Kahl agreed and drew a poster for the event depicting himself, Culhane, and Robin Hood (it is pictured and - what even is it…?).

Why he might not be annoying:

He hosted and wrote for numerous Disney specials.
He worked as an uncredited writer on the 1983 Disney live-action feature ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes.’
He worked with animation director Richard Williams on his unfinished epic ‘The Thief and the Cobbler.’
He was honored to be the design model for Mr. Snoops, saying: ‘But I'm not upset. It's a kind of immortality. My great-grandchildren will see me. As a short, pudgy kidnapper of little girls.’
He would later be caricatured by Disney again, this time in the 'Rhapsody in Blue' sequence of Fantasia 2000 as ‘Flying John.’
