The Resume

    (November 1, 1937- )
    Born in Columbia, South Carolina
Birth name was James William Anderson III
Country singer, songwriter and TV personality
Recorded the #1 country singles 'Mama Sang A Song' (1962), 'Still' (1963), 'I Get The Fever' (1966), 'For Loving You' (with Jan Howard, 1967), 'My Life (Throw It Away If I Want To)' (1969), 'World of Make Believe' (1974) and 'Sometimes' (with Mary Lou Turner, 1976)
On The Nashville Network, hosted the quiz show 'Fandango,' the interview show 'Opry Backstage' and the talent show 'You Can Be A Star'
Hosts 'Bill Anderson Visits with the Legends' on Sirius XM radio
Former spokesperson for the Po'Folks restaurant chain (named after one of his songs)
Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2001)

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed 'Whispering Bill' both for his quiet vocal style and because many of his songs feature a whispered recitation.
A couple of his songs go further and consist of just the whispering with no singing at all.
He had a recurring role on the soap opera 'One Life To Live' as a country singer named Bill Anderson. (There's a stretch.)
He was charged with assault by girlfriend Deborah Marlin after he allegedly shoved her and tried to hit her with the door of a moving vehicle (April, 2003).

Why he might not be annoying:

As a songwriter, he has had #1 hits over a five decade span, from Ray Price's 'City Lights' (1958) to George Strait's 'Give It Away' (2006).
When Billboard named the Top 20 Country Songs of the Last 35 Years (1995), he had four songs on the list ('City Lights,' 'One A Day,' 'Still' and 'Mama Sang A Song'), more than any other songwriter.
He was the first country figure named a BMI Songwriting Icon (2002).
