Why she might be annoying
Growing up, she was embarrassed by her height.
At the beginning of her career, she sold clothes along King's Road in Chelsea from a basket 'like a gypsy.'
She refused to show her collections on the catwalk.
On the rare occassions that she admitted journalists to her design studio, she would turn all pictures of Princess Diana to the wall.
Why she might not be annoying
She bought her first sewing machine with money she won from her mother-in-law after betting she could stop smoking.
She avoided following trends, giving her designs an understated elegance.
At the British Fashion Awards, she was named Couture Designer of the Year (1990) and Glamour Designer of the Year (1991).
After undergoing surgery for breast cancer, she became a founding sponsor of the Breast Cancer Haven (1995).
