U.S. Senator
    (November 10, 1943- )
    Born in Warrenton, North Carolina
Birth name is Clarence Saxby Chambliss
    Representative (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2003) and Senator (January 3, 2003-January 3, 2015) from Georgia
He told a group of emergency responders they should 'turn the sheriff loose and arrest every Muslim that crosses the state line.' (November 19, 2001)
He told the Senate Armed Services Committee, 'We need better intelligence. If we had better intelligence in the Civil War, we'd be quoting Jefferson Davis, not Lincoln.'
During his 2002 Senate campaign, he ran ads questioning the patriotism of incumbent Max Cleland and pairing his picture with Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.
Several fellow Republicans denounced his campaign, with John McCain saying, 'It's worse than disgraceful, it's reprehensible' and Chuck Hagel saying the ads were 'beyond offensive to me.'
Cleland is a decorated soldier who lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam; Chambliss received a student deferment to attend law school.
Despite his smearing of Cleland, he voted to condemn's 'General Betray Us' ad.
He chaired the House subcommittee investigating intelligence lapses leading up to 9/11.
He became the first senator since 1947 to chair a standing committee after serving just two years.
He received the Air Force Association's Stuart Symington Award for outstanding contribution to national security.
