Comedian
    (November 12, 1875-March 4, 1922)
Born in Sweetes, Antigua and Barbuda
Died in New York City, New York
    Recorded 'Nobody'
His full first name was 'Egbert.'
He was a black man who wore 'blackface.'
He and George Walker formed a minstrel duo named 'Two Real Coons.'
He faced harsh criticism from some black community leaders over stereotypical depictions.
He became the first American black to take the lead on Broadway.
He was one of the best-selling recording artists of the early 20th century.
When a white bartender at a swanky New York City hotel charged him $50 for a drink, Bert peeled off a roll of hundred dollar bills, buying a round for everyone at the bar.
W.C. Fields said Bert was: 'the funniest man I ever saw--and the saddest man I ever knew.'
