Artist
    (September 18, 1970-July 12, 1993)
Born in Hampstead, London, United Kingdom
Moved to Kenya with his family (1977)
Worked as graphic designer for Mademoiselle Magazine
Kept a series of art journals published into three books by Chronicle Books: 'The Journey is the Destination', 'Dan Eldon: The Art of Life', and 'Safari as a Way of Life'
Took a series of photos of the civil war in Somalia, which appeared in Time and Newsweek (June 12, 1993)
Third assistant director of 'Lost in Africa' (August 3, 1994)
Stoned to death, along with his three colleagues, by a mob in Mogadishu
He developed a healthy respect for baboons after one stole his chocolate mousse and scratched his arm. (huh?)
In Mogadishu, he sold shirts that said 'Viva Somalia... than you for not looting' that got looted anyway.
When he claimed to have 'had enough' of the violence in Somalia, he stayed to record the events.
He was abused by a math teacher in his first school in Kenya.
He did a fundraising campaign to raise enough money to pay for the surgery of a young girl (she died of neglect, but kudos for his efforts, though).
He was voted most outstanding student of his graduating class in high school.
His friendliness among locals earned him the nickname 'Mayor of Mogadishu.
If he hadn't traveled to Somalia and took pictures there, the world would've turned a blind eye on the anarchy in the country.
