Why Columbia, Missouri might be annoying:

They pretentiously proclaim themselves 'The Athens of Missouri.'
It often gets overlooked by other Missouri cities, as it doesn't have the size of Kansas City and St. Louis, doesn't have the tourist attractions of Branson and Springfield or the political clout of Jefferson City.
The university is called 'Mizzou' for short.
Because it is located between the two cities, sports fans are divided between Kansas City's teams and St. Louis' teams.
The giant 'M' constructed of rocks in their football field's end zone was often vandalized by rivaling teams' fans.

Why Columbia, Missouri might not be annoying:

It is a fast-growing city, nearly doubling its population between 1980-2010.
It is a fairly liberal city in a fairly conservative state.
More than 50 percent of its residents have a bachelor's degree or higher.
It is right in the center of the Missouri, at nearly equal distance between Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield.
It has a diverse economy and isn't completely dominated by the university, unlike most college towns its size.
