    When she was 13, she vowed she would never end up teaching.
    She referred to children as masters and their teachers as slaves.
    She believed schooling should start at infancy.
    She had a child with a colleague who agreed to keep his paternity a secret.
    She handed over her newborn son to a wet nurse and later sent him to boarding school.

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her child-centered theories about learning modernized education.
    She was the first female doctor in Italy.
    She set up her first school in one of Rome's poorest neighborhoods.
    Her outspoken antifascism led to her exile from Italy during World War Two.
    She was nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
    She was featured on Italian currency until the lire was replaced by the Euro.
