With Frank Thomas wrote 'Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life' (1981), considered 'the Bible of animation'

Why he might be annoying:

He supported himself as a student at Stanford by selling landscapes at a local speakeasy.
He and the other core members of Disney's animation team were nicknamed the 'Nine Old Men' while in their 20s.
He animated the death of Bambi's mother, thus traumatizing generations of children.

He was married to Marie Worthey for 63 years until her death.
Leonard Maltin noted, '[People] know his characters. They've seen him act without realizing it.'
Brad Bird paid tribute by giving him cameos in 'The Iron Giant' and 'The Incredibles.'
He was the first animator to receive the National Medal of Arts (2005).
